Public transportion must make people agitated?
I would like to think that for the most part I am a pretty chill guy. Maybe that’s why I am so baffled by people being severly agitated while on public transportation. As you may have heard I now have a job in the city that has me taking the train everyday. This is where I have witnessed some of the most vile people ever to have crossed my path.
Take today for example. The first two cars of the train did not open which required everyone to enter further down. When trying to enter through to the cars which had the unopened doors, it was noticed that a gate was down keeping us from our intended destination and the lights were out. People still tried to push past me to get to it so they could witness themselves that, in fact, the gate was closed. Just informing them didn’t seem to be enough. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what happened next. Some smarty pants opened the gate and went through which caused everyone to charge the narrow walkway into the next few cars. People kept telling me to move and shoved me out of the way. I asked if they trusted cars that were all but clearly marked to not enter. That’s when some older woman told me to “go fuck myself” because she “didn’t give a shit”.
So here we are just sitting in the dark. Admittedly it was nice because you could actually see the city through the window. A few minutes later is when the conductor came through very upset and told us that we were all stupid to get into a dark car.
What is it that turns people into impatient bananaheads waiting to just start a fight. I know that sometimes the mentality is to act that way because who is really going to do something about it. Well one of these days someone will and it is unfortunate that anger has to be elevated to that state over an hour trip to get home.
